Friday, October 31st, 2008

There are many people who want to give up smoking. There are also a lot of people who are forced to stop smoking, due to bans in restaurants, the workplace etc

What are the best smoking alternatives to cope with your not smoking? Let’s find out.

It’s a proven fact that if you use Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) you will double your chances of giving up smoking rather than trying smoking cold turkey which involves stopping with no nicotine.

There are various NRT alternatives

Patches, gum puffers and inhalers which all give you a measured dose of nicotine and also the new pill Zyban.

The one you choose is down to personal preference but all will increase your chances of giving up
Nicotine a surprising fact:

Nicotine provides the addictive nature of cigarette smoking but does not cause disease or death in fact in recent years medical research has shown it’s actually good for you in organic form.

It improves mood concentration and memory and research is ongoing into it treating diseases such as depression, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.

The race is on therefore to provide organic nicotine drugs. The first is already out nicotine water.

A new smoking alternative

The product is aimed at people who cant, or don’t wish to smoke and provides nicotine in pure water which gives an additional benefit to the user of hydration.

This product has nicotine and water which is an attractive combination.

When smokers can’t or don’t wish to smoke they simply take a few sips so it’s a great product when a smoking ban is in place.

Nicotine products to help smokers give up or have an alternative when they cant or don’t wish to smoke will increase in the coming years as we move more and more towards a smokeless society.

The main smoking alternatives are listed above but expect to see many more in the coming years.

Popular Products That Can Help You Quit Smoking

Friday, October 31st, 2008

The Desire to Quit Smoking

This “stop smoking product” isn’t found on any shelf or in any store or web site. The desire to quit smoking for yourself and for the betterment of your health must be present for a smoking cessation program to be successful.

With that being said, here is a list of quit smoking products available today that you may find helpful in your quest for a healthier, smoke-free life.

Nicotine Patches

This method of quitting smoking is a form of nicotine replacement therapy. A small, usually transparent patch is placed on the body and periodically releases small amounts of nicotine. This allows your brain to get the nicotine it craves while weaning yourself from it but without getting the harmful smoke.

Nicotine Gum

Nicotine gum is a popular stop smoking aid in that it serves two purposes. First, the gum releases small amounts of nicotine when chewed, and secondly, it helps keep your mouth busy and may help with overeating.

Quit Smoking Lozenges

These lozenges are said to help decrease nicotine cravings and ease withdrawal symptoms such as nervousness, anxiety and headaches. They’re also useful for the oral fixation aspect of quitting smoking and can help some avoid gaining weight.

Quit Smoking Pills

There are a few quit smoking pills available that you can ask your doctor about. Zyban is a popular drug that many people have found helpful that doesn’t contain nicotine but aids in the withdrawal process.

Zyban contains the same ingredient as the anti-depressant Wellbutrin and has the same effects such as easing irritability and anxiety, but without being classified as an anti-depressant.

A new drug hitting the market, under the name Chantix, Varenicline has been shown to block nicotine from attaching to the receptors in the brain. When nicotine is inhaled, the chemical properties attach themselves to the brain receptors, which then act as tiny messengers telling the body to release dopamine.

Dopamine is the chemical that gives us a feeling of relief and pleasure, which is why nicotine addiction is so strong since the body continuously wants to experience that “feel good” sensation it gets from smoking.

Herbal Remedies

If you prefer the natural route, you may want to consider herbal remedies such as pills, teas and even herbal cigarettes. These cigarettes resemble the real deal without the nicotine and tar and may give you something to do with your hands. They also still allow you to experience the sensation of smoking while quitting the habit.

Hypnosis and Support Groups

If you are a person who is able to be hypnotized, as not everyone is, then perhaps this method is worth trying as several people have reported success after a stop smoking hypnosis session.

Support groups are beneficial in that they surround you with like-minded people who understand your feelings through first hand experience. People often find it easier to quit smoking with the support of others and can share tips, hints and even frustrations in your journey to quit smoking.

Any of these stop smoking products coupled with the strong desire to lead a healthier and longer life can help you realize your dream of being a non-smoker. Remember the adverse ramifications that are well-documented and filling the news reports today such as lung cancer, emphysema, COPD or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, not to mention the damage caused to friends and loved ones by second-hand smoke.

Stop Smoking Aids For Smokers Who Want To Give Up Smoking!

Friday, October 31st, 2008

There are a few free stop smoking aids: help lines, the smokers anonymous, or picking up simple hobbies. The help lines are run by trained counselors who can help very much the smoker who want to give up smoking. These lines help in different ways, by nicotine replacement therapy and help they choose the right one, or by recommending them laser therapy or drugs like Zyban.

Joining Smokers Anonymous can be very useful to those who want to give up smoking because these groups are being advised by those who have given up smoking, and it can be very helpful when the smoker is facing withdrawal symptoms. The smoker can also be helped by a family friend or a friend. No monetary value is involved because the family member (or the friend) wants to help the smoker hive up smoking, and he does that by spending hours (for example) with the smoker.

Picking up a simple hobby, like gardening or building scrapbooks keeps the individual occupied and reduces the urge to smoke. In consequence the smoker must learn to fill up hours with meaningful and engrossing activity, that is why it is important, the smoker picks an activity in which he is interested.

Other ways, the smoker can help himself by bringing discipline in his life, drinking a glass of water or fruit juice whenever the urge of smoke appears. Taking a few deep breaths and relaxing is a natural way to fight the urge of smoking.

A simple painless therapy is the laser treatment that uses a low intensity laser beam (called cold laser) to kill the smoking urge. Usually, it requires only a 20-30 minutes session to kill the smoking urge, but in some cases two or three sittings may be needed.

The therapy contains three stages, the first one where points that can reduce the dependence of the body on nicotine are activated, the second controls the appetite points so no extra weight is gained, and the last step stimulates the relaxation points to release endorphins.(this is a critical point to any treatment, because, the endorphins, which are produced by pituitary glands create a sense of false well-being and are present in large numbers in smokers).

The reason for which smokers experience emotional distress, anger, and the simple but phenomenal urge to light another cigar is that the endorphins register a sharp fall whenever someone tries to quit smoking. That is where laser treatment helps, by activating specific points in the body (ears, nose, hands, wrist, and forearm), and stimulating the natural release of synthesized endorphins.

Because of the given stimulation points, many doctors consider laser therapy to be similar to acupuncture Oriental science that uses needle to activate pressure points besides the fact that laser therapy uses low intensity laser beam.

Because of the advantages painless, no cuts or burns, and high success rate (80%-90%) more people tend to use this therapy every day. The only smokers who should not consider this treatment are pregnant women, cancer patients and epileptics.

What is your greatest temptation and why do you feel this way?

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Mine is women.

I can avoid drugs, I can avoid smoking, I can avoid beer.
But women bring me down. It is like I have a choice, yet I don't have a choice really.

It is like I am drugged, my body craves a companion, while I try mentally to convince myself I am strong enough to be alone.

It is the beautiful women who bring me down. I um, thought I had a good girlfriend, 3 times, and I got um, burned. One was found out to be on drugs (plus other men), and another simply cheated etc.

So I sometimes hate women, yet I feel unable to stay away forever because of the raging hormones. I long for the day I die sometimes just so I can be free of this battle.

I strongly want to be alone and sometimes curse God for creating such a strong desire for a partner in me and want to slay God for over-riding my free will.

I have always wanted to be independent, alone, but feel unable to. I did try relations, but after they failed, I just give up that women can be good.

What temptations do you have?

For me, it is also "lust" that's my worst temptation. I, too, have been the victim of unfaithful love interests. For your own good, don't wish for death until you are "right" with God. Satan is the source of your extreme desires, not God. And God doesn't override your free will. He's given you the choice to do right or wrong. Put your trust in Him. He's the only one who'll never let you down. Be patient, not co-dependant. When it's time, He'll set you up with "Ms. Right"!

What do you think about teenagers today ?

Friday, October 31st, 2008

there was a 12 year girl pregnant, smoking, free sex, havin' wild party wif boyfriend…tell me is it nice our teens do that?

Wow, sounds like Mom and Dad are keeping a good handle on their teenager.

As for most of us, we don't do that stuff. 10% give the other 90% a bad name.

My dad has been told today by his consultant to stop smoking?

Friday, October 31st, 2008

He has a severe pain in his feet and ankles. I can't remember the name of his complaint but it's something to do with his arteries and circulation. The consultant said it could be his heart of brain that this happens to next. Mum spoke to him after he was told to stop smoking and dad jumped down her throat saying that he's cut down to 4 a day already. This is making mum ill from worry so I spoke to him this afternoon. In so many words he told me not to lecture him. My dad is 63 this year. I'm not ready to lose him. How can I help him through this?

My mum has just given up after 45 years of smoking, if she can do it your dad can. Tell him to go to the doctors and get all the NRT (nicotine replacement therapy) he can, the nicorette inhalers are a god send for my mum, she feels so much better after a week. He doesn't have to go cold turkey to do this.

Why would anyone want to pray to an invisible man in the sky?

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

In the words of good george carlin: "Religion has convinced people that there's an invisible man…living in the sky. Who watches everything you do every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a list of ten specific things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do any of these things, he will send you to a special place, of burning and fire and smoke and torture and anguish for you to live forever, and suffer, and burn, and scream, until the end of time. But he loves you. He loves you. He loves you and he needs money…" Why would you believe in that, while you can wonder about the wonders of life, of nature, of mother earth and not having to pay a dime for it ? The sun raises free, rain falls free and for everyone, no matter what invisible man you believe in…

Beats me.

I just asked a question, and said i will be smoke free for 22 days on monday, but I smoked regularly b4 then.?

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

I have a lot of people give me ideas, like the fake piss and all of that but I have no idea how it is going to be as in if they will watch me etc. I did quit smoking, and have been drinking cranberry and apple juice and got some vitamin b12 vitamins today and drink water pretty regularly. I even drank an herbal cleanser drink like a week and a half ago. The only thing is I ordered a piss test strip and did it myself, but i couldnt really tell if there were two lines or one, so I think I may have tested positive. Any ideas? Or am I just outta luck?

If your drinking plenty of water, you should be ok. Drink MORE water, flush your system good. depending on "what" you were smoking I would say if it's been 2-3 weeks and your drinking enough water so that your pee is barely even yellow then your flushing pretty good and should be fine. I've taken tests 2 weeks after smoking and never had a thing come back to smack me in the face yet (knock on wood)
Never tried it myself because I can't stomach it, but I hear vinegar will "cleanse" your system as well. Cranberry juice is better tasting though.
